Ancient Oak

Felt like drawing a tree. I love trees, and I rather frequently sketch and doodle trees on random pieces of paper (quite often at times when I should be doing other things with these pieces of paper, like writing down information in class). But somehow, none of all the trees I draw ever really made it into being the objects of a painting. I decided this needs fixing right now.

So, I drew this one. I started with just the tree. It's meant to be one of those ancient oaks, with rough bark and thick, twisted branches, worn by age, and yet untroubled by it. I love trees like this one in particular. They have seen centuries at times, and still, its leaves are ever full of life.

I tried a lot of things with the background. The sky originally had no clouds at all, but I wasn't happy with the lack of depth it had. And the waterfall gave me trouble. I cursed myself for including it a few times.
